Alexandria Township is part of Hunterdon County, incorporated as one of New Jersey’s original townships back in 1798. Alexandria Township has steadily grown over the past 200+ years, and today it’s home to approximately 5,000 residents.
Settled by Europeans in the early 1700s, the township was named for James Alexander, the Attorney General of New Jersey, who purchased 10,000 acres of land in 1744. Alexandria Township includes the historic villages of Everittstown, Mt. Pleasant, Little York and a portion of Pittstown. Everittstown and Little York are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Farming continues to play an important role here, as crop, dairy and horse farms dot the countryside. Time has changed very little in this regard throughout Alexandria Township.
